Abstract

This research aims to analyze and evaluate the environmental performance of the New Badoosh Cement Plant and measure its contribution to achieving sustainable development. The importance of this study arises from the significant environmental impacts of the cement industry, which require assessing the industry's commitment to sustainable environmental practices. The research problem revolves around the gap between effective environmental performance requirements and their actual implementation, in addition to limited environmental training programs for employees,  The study was based on the hypothesis that there is a statistically significant relationship between environmental performance as an independent variable and sustainable development as a dependent variable, A descriptive-analytical approach was adopted to test this relationship using a questionnaire composed of 22 items, distributed to a purposive sample of 50 administrative and technical employees, The statistical analysis revealed a positive and significant relationship between environmental performance and the achievement of sustainable development in its environmental, economic, and social dimensions, with environmental performance explaining 25% of the variance in sustainability levels. The results also highlighted inconsistencies in the plant’s adherence to environmental practices, particularly in emergency planning and waste management. The study recommends establishing a dedicated unit to monitor environmental performance, adopting the ISO 14044 environmental standard, and strengthening training and awareness programs for employees to enhance environmental performance and support sustainability goals.
